A cherished tradition
To highlight the diversity of the geranium genus, a geranium or a group of geranium varieties is awarded the honorary title of Geranium of the Year every year. To receive the award, the geranium must be healthy and vigorous with a high beauty value. In addition, the variety should show a different expression than what we usually see in geraniums.
The Geranium of the Year award is unveiled every year at the Garden Show in collaboration with the Flower Promotion Association. The geranium is unveiled on the opening day (Thursday). As soon as the fair opens, all visitors to the fair can see the novelty in the Blomsterfrämjandet stand installation and buy the first specimens in exhibitors’ sales.
Each year an ambassador is chosen to present the Pelargonium of the Year.
This has been considered an honorary assignment for many respondents and over the years we have had the privilege of working with many incredibly dedicated people.
On Thursday, the Ambassador of the Year will be given a slot on one of the fair’s stages. Find out more about the Pelargon of the Year and the ambassador’s passion for his geraniums. Afterwards, you can ask questions and take pictures of the ambassador, you and the newly crowned Pelargon.
Pelargon of the Year is an annual event run by dedicated Swedish gardeners who love growing Pelargoniums. They want to maintain and develop the fine Swedish tradition of decorating with geraniums that have already been managed for several generations, into the future. The gardeners are driven by their interest and want to show the breadth of the range and that more people will love to grow and enjoy Swedish-grown geraniums.
